Here comes our very first newsletter!
KnitLeaks is here to tell you all about what is happening in the fiber world right now.
Hey there, Knitters!
KnitLeaks focuses mainly on the fiber arts, but we also enjoy talking about entertainment. Who doesn't like watching a film or show while crafting? Or listening to podcasts, music, or audiobooks?
In our very first installment, we planned to talk about the “Heavy Metal Knitting World Championships” that were supposed to happen on July 7th—very much a mix of both our interests. If you're curious, you can watch last year’s event on YouTube.
Sadly, the 2023 event was recently canceled. The organizers want to focus fully on bringing the event back in 2024. To help you with the waiting time, we have prepared our very own Heavy Metal playlist. You can find a link and the individual songs at the end of this newsletter.
Speaking of playlists… Have you seen the first playlist we posted on our website? It’s a very different one from the one you’re getting today. We started our playlist tradition with the 10th anniversary of BTS – probably the longest playlist we’ll ever put together. It was the first one in a hopefully long list of playlists for all kinds of moods and covering all types of genres.
While writing this newsletter, the fiber world has returned to its pre-pandemic glory. Almost all of the yarn festivals and retreats are now back on track, and we can all enjoy our favorite hobbies together again.
Just last weekend, on the 10th of June, was WWKIP-day, also known as World Wide Knit in Public Day. Knitters all over the world gathered in Cafés or parks to show the world that knitting is still very much “a thing” that people enjoy. If you are newer to the knitting world, there is an official website for KIP-day that lists many different meetups. It’s definitely worth checking out for next year.
What you missed on the KnitLeaks website:
As we said before, KnitLeaks brings you the perfect mix of the fiber and entertainment world. Our articles in the last week are a clear reflection of that.
We had an article about “The Nurse,” a show inspired by Denmark’s infamous nurse killer as well as “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” a feel-good romance show, and talked about the 10th anniversary of BTS.
There were also many great crafting-related articles. How to crochet your own swimsuit, joining the zero waste movement by using up scraps, and the traditional Portuguese “Saint Anthony’s Shawl” are just a glimpse from last week into the diversity of our website. On top of that, we talked about Lalanalu’s live shopping experience, where this amazing yarn shop in Barcelona held an online shopping trip for everyone via Zoom.
Next week on KnitLeaks:
You can look forward to seeing the same amazing mix as always. We will talk about crochet cardigans, Vicuna fiber, the upcoming Tour de Fleece, and much more.
On top of our website and newsletter, you should join the KnitLeaks Instagram and YouTube communities. Our correspondent Nara is traveling the world to bring you news from all the knitting events you can think of. Just this week, she attended the MYAK retreat in Northern Italy with Joji Locatelli as the guest teacher. There are many reels to enjoy, as well as a brand-new video on our YouTube channel.
We hope to bring you all of the news and informative and fun articles on our website at least twice a month.
Thank you so much for signing up to our newsletter!
See you next time,
KnitLeaks Team
