Hello, Makers!
August is the prime traveling month!
If you're in the middle of summer, the fact remains: August is the month for vacation and traveling.
We, as crafters, are always in need of good travel projects, so I conducted a survey on Instagram to find out what your favorite travel projects are. Almost everyone brings socks for vacation knitting, and it's easy to see why. They are small, therefore super portable, and easy enough to knit without having to take a pattern book or magazine. Another point that was very important to you was “easy to knit,” so stockinette projects are also very far in front of your favorites, be it sweaters, shawls, or other accessories.
Here are some free pattern ideas for your travels:
The Simple Collection by TinCan Knits
It's a collection of 12 easy-to-knit projects, including socks, sweaters, hats, and shawls.
The Half + Half Triangles Wrap by Purl Soho
This project will keep you entertained for quite a while, and you will have a beautiful big wrap to snuggle into after your vacation is over.
There are many more patterns to find from Espace Tricot that would make for amazing vacation knitting.
Close to You shawlette by Justyna Lorkowska
Perfect for that single skein of fingering weight yarn that´s been lingering in your stash.
To go with my “what to take” survey, I also asked about the perfect amount of projects to take for a one-week vacation. The answers varied between 2 and 4 projects, plus some backup needles, just in case.
Now you’re ready for vacation knitting, too!

For historical fiction lovers
I’ve recently finished reading a novel called Pachinko. It’s a multigenerational saga that explores the lives of a Korean family living in Japan from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1980s. The book delves into themes of identity, family, love, and the impact of historical events on individuals. It's available on Audible, so you can listen to it while knitting or crocheting. There's also a tv series based on the book on Apple TV+. I recommend both to anyone who appreciates good storytelling and well-crafted characters. —Pris Lopes
