The holiday season is upon us, and we couldn't be more thrilled! One of our favorite traditions is the advent calendar, which adds a touch of magic to our Christmas countdown. Whether it's shaped like a tree, a house, or a simple rectangle, these calendars are a joy to have around.
The most traditional advent calendar is a charming piece of cardboard with little numbered doors or drawers. Each day, you open one and find a small surprise inside — a daily ritual that makes the holiday season even more special.
The word "Advent" comes from Latin and means "coming". It's a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The advent calendar has its roots in 19th-century Germany and Protestant religious practices. Back then, communities would count down to Christmas by lighting candles or marking walls. Much like the ones we know and love today, the first printed advent calendar was created by Gerhard Lang in the early 1900s.
Over the years, the Advent calendar has become a beloved tradition worldwide, regardless of religious beliefs. In recent years, it has seen a revival with a modern twist. Companies from various industries are launching their advent calendars, with goodies ranging from toys and beauty items to high-end luxury products. There truly is something for everyone!
We are thrilled to receive the Third Christmas Yarn Advent Calendar from El Robledal de la Santa as a special gift this year. Our dear friends Jackson and David, along with Francesco from Dark Omen Yarn, have created a stunning set that includes 24 mini skeins of 20 grams, a project bag for your minis, and a collection of surprise gifts. It's truly a treat!
El Robledal de la Santa's skeins are a new base, Silky ME Sock, and the Dark Omen base is a lush Merino Plus. Each skein was hand-dyed in an exclusive colorway, offering a rainbow of colors, from semi-solids and variegated to speckles.
We've chosen the Pieces Wrap pattern by our good friend Veera Välimäki to showcase these lovely mini skeins. It's a design specially made for these kinds of mini sets, whether from Advent Calendars or other brands.
